Getting to know…George Pearce, Apprentice Powered Access Engineer at Total Hire and Sales
We spoke to one of our youngest team members, Apprentice Powered Access Engineer, George Pearce about learning on the job and going up high in big machines, safely!
George joined Total Hire and Sales from leaving school at 16. Based at our Powered Access Depot at Victory Road, he works as an apprentice lift truck and powered access engineer helping to look after our fleet of powered access equipment including articulated booms, scissor lifts and push around verticals.
Enthusiastic and funny, George likes the mixture of earning while learning on the job and going to North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) Harrowbrook Campus every six weeks. At college he learns the theory and regulations related to working with mobile elevated work platforms to completement the practical knowledge he gains on site.
The best advice he’s been given so far is putting safety first, something that’s paramount to the Total team and essential when your favourite thing at work is going up high in big machines! He makes sure that the correct PPE is always worn and that each step in getting kit up to standard is carried out in the correct order.
George hopes to be a fully qualified powered access engineer by 2028, after four years on the job learning.
When he’s not got his head in the clouds, he likes watching football and is a big Derby County fan.
