Total Hire and Sales helps local hospice to Light Up a Life
Total Hire and Sales was again pleased to support local charity, Ashgate Hospice’s annual Light Up a Life parade last month with the loan of generators and lighting to help ensure the event was a success.
The Light Up a Life event, which took place in early December, offered families the chance to celebrate their loved ones with a special remembrance ceremony while helping to raise vital funds for end-of-life care.
This year, members of the community joined the 1.2 mile procession, lighting up the streets of Chesterfield with special lanterns personalised in tribute to their family and friends. This was the first time the ceremony had been held in person since the pandemic, with the remembrance service led by local celebrant Jonathan Reeve and featuring music from local singer Ariarna Joy in the hospice’s beautifully-lit gardens.
Total’s generators were used to power inflatable screens featuring photos and dedications and the PA system, while the lighting helped to light the garden’s exit points and improve safety.
The event was attended by over 450 people and raised over £20,000 for the charity. Thanks to donations by Total Hire and Sales and other local businesses, all funds saved can be redirected to support the hospice’s work across North Derbyshire.

Alison Ward‑Foster, Partnerships Manager at Ashgate Hospice, says: “Thanks to local businesses like Total Hire and Sales the hospice was able to light up the gardens at their moving Light Up A Life, in memory event.
“Total Hire and Sales provide equipment such as generators, crowd barriers and battery powered lighting to enable the event to go on safely and smoothly. All of the equipment is provided free of charge, saving the Hospice over £700. Gifts in kind like this enable the hospice to redirect money to essential hospice care so our nurses can be there for patients when they need them the most.”
